Baby Pacifiers

It is very tempting to buy cute looking pacifiers the moment you go shopping for your baby. However, it is recommended that you exercise caution and resist buying too many pacifiers. You may be surprised to know that some babies don't like pacifiers at all! Some others, only like a particular shape and will use only a certain type of pacifiers. Your tiny infant is not going to choose a pacifier based on bright colors and designs but mainly comfortable. Almost all toddlers get a secure feeling when they have something to suck on. Here are some tips for the right use of pacifiers.
  • A pacifier helps a lot to calm down a finicky baby. Though helpful, you should not make it a habit to pop in a pacifier every time the baby cries or throws a tantrum. For all that you know, the baby might want just a hug from you instead of the pacifier!
  • Sometimes, a pacifier may also help the baby go to sleep. This is because it helps to calm down the baby and provide a warm feeling, which helps the brain to relax and doze away.
  • Replace pacifiers often in order to keep infections at bay. In fact, when you buy one, make sure it can be put in hot water in order to be sterilized. If the pacifier is eve slightly worn, consider buying new ones.
  • Pacifiers are available in silicon as well as latex. While silicon can be easily washed, does not retain smells and is tough to bite through, the latex ones are soft on the baby's mouth, though may wear out quickly due to repeated washings.
  • Do not hang the pacifier around the baby's neck with a string or a ribbon. It poses a big risk for the baby as he/she might just get strangulated accidentally. Instead, keep the pacifiers inside the bag that has other baby products such as diapers or even keep a couple in your handbag. Even if the pacifier gets lost somewhere, you have atleast a couple in hand.
