Baby Car Seats

It is neither possible nor even suggested to carry very new born babies with you where ever you go. But yes after the tiny tots grow up a little and furthermore, if you have a nuclear family then you got left no other option but to accompany your little one with you. If you are the kind who prefers to travel by car mostly, it is best to get hold of a good car seat for the safety and comfort of your baby.

Children are very naïve and so it is you who needs to ensure that they are safe and secure all the time. This becomes all the more pertinent when you are driving or traveling because your attention may be focused on driving or any other activity going around you. This is when the need for a baby car seat suddenly becomes conspicuous.

Car seats for babies come in a variety of designs and models depending upon weight and age of the child. The very first option available to new parents is that of the rearward-facing baby car seat. It is suitable for new-borns in the age group zero to about six months and weighing around 10 kgs. Such car seats for babies can be kept both either in the front or back of the car. Rearward-facing baby car seats provide adequate protection for the infant's head, neck and spine.

Forward-facing car seats are best suited for babies between nine months to four years of age and weighing about nine to 18 kgs. Once a child has outgrown a rearwards facing seat, the best option is to use the forward-facing one. It's fitted with an integral harness, whose large area lessens the chance of injury in case of a mishap. There's also a bottom attachment between the legs to prevent the child from sliding under, and out of, the harness.

Booster seats and booster cushions are best suited to children weighing in between 15 - 25 kgs and approximately four to six years of age. Some booster seats are made in such a way that it can be transformed into a booster cushion just by detaching the back rest. However, the booster car seats and cushions do not have an integral harness to hold the child in place. It's the adult seat belt that goes around the child and the seat.
