A very important feature of infant care is
sterilizing its feeding bottle and its other accessories. Sterilization
of baby feeding utensils becomes a common act especially after the baby
is weaning away to being fed from a bottle. However, it is pertinent
that all parts of a baby bottle including the bottle, nipple, cap, and
nipple ring be sterilized before initial use. This process is believed
to remove all germs from the baby bottle.
There are different ways of sterilizing baby bottles. But the commonest
or the most popular method of doing so is by bringing a potful of water
to full boil and then immersing the baby bottle and its various
components slowing into it. One is supposed to leave the baby bottle
components in the boiling water for around 10 to 15 minutes. Then pick
them out one at a time and leave them on a clean towel to dry.
There are also alternative methods employed to sterilize baby bottle by
using specific sterilizing units. For instance, many people employ the
microwave or steam as baby bottle sterilizers. Another viable option is
cold sterilization, in which all parts of the baby feeding bottle are
put into a unit holding a special sterilization liquid. At times,
sterilization tablets are used instead of liquid.
Instead of taking the bottle out after the stipulated 10 or 15 minutes,
you can also leave them submerged until they are required again.
Normally the act of baby bottles sterilization takes around only half an
hour, but the liquid is supposed to be changed every 24 hours or so. The
baby bottle and its accessories need to be rinsed thoroughly with cool,
boiled water before they are re-assembled to get rid of the
sterilization chemical.
