A lot of us fondly nurture childhood memories of
bumping around in the back of the family car every time it swerved a
sharp corner or hit a speed breaker on long journeys and outings. But
few are aware that such incidences have been long causing serious
injuries and at times even death of small children across the globe. The
death rate has, however, been on the decline of late with the
introduction of seats belts in cars.
The only glitch in the functioning of the car seat belt is that it's
apt for adults, but do not provide adequate protection to kids. And this
is where the role of baby booster seat becomes pronounced. Baby booster
car seats have become a must-have feature in the vehicles of young
parents nowadays because whether it's for a ride to the park or a
restaurant for having an ice-cream, the little ones have been noticed to
spend more time in cars than before.
The main function of the child booster seat is precisely what its name
suggests. It elevates the kid up to a point where the vehicle's lap and
shoulder belts together holds him or her down safely. Adult car seat
belts being too long to secure a child safely in place, is often seen to
fail in the prevention of an injury or sudden jerk to the kid incase the
vehicle has to stop abruptly for any reason.
The reason why one strictly recommends refraining from using adult car
seat belts on children is because they pose numerous hazards during
emergency. For instance if the belt lies over the child's tummy during a
crash, he or she may suffer stomach, liver or spleen damage. Due to
these reasons, it has been made mandatory in many countries for vehicles
to have a baby booster car seat for all kids until they are eight years
of age.
